Here we have a rare spanish photo card picturing stage and movie actor, Antonio Moreno. A great image, this remains in good overall condition showing some slight creasing and a small tear on the right edge. This vintage card measures an approximate 3-1/2" x 5-1/2". The actor, Antonio Moreno, was born as Antonio Garride Monteagudo on September 26, 1887 in Madrid, Spain. He emigrated to the US at the age of 14, and wound up in Hollywood in 1912 under contract to Vitagraph as a bit player and extra. Within 2 years, the handsome young actor started appearing opposite of actress Pearl White in serials and he would become an extremely popular matinee idol within the next year. Antonio Moreno had difficulty with the transition to sound, given his notable Spanish accent, and his popularity went into decline by the late 1920's. He would remain a favorite, however, by working successful character roles in addition to working in Mexican films. He would retire from the movies in the late 1950's after a career spanning 4 decades.
Antonio Moreno was married once, to Daisy Canfield Danziger, before her death in an automobile accident.
