Here we have a rare Spanish advertising card picturing movie actress, Norma Shearer. This was an advertisement for Spanish Chocolates, "Eduardo Pi" of Barcelona. A beautiful image of Norma, this remains in good overall condition showing a few soft creases. This vintage card measures an approximate 2-3/4" x 4-1/4".
The Academy Award winning movie actress, Norma Shearer, was born on August 10, 1902 in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter Andrew Shearer and actress Edith Shearer. Norma Shearer was 16 years old when her father's business collapsed, and her mother brought Norma and her sister to New York to find work in the entertainment business.
Starting as a fashion model, Norma Shearer would get her first acting job in the 1920 movie, "The Stealers". A few more movies were made before Norma was signed by Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 1924. It was at MGM that Norma Shearer would commence her path to becoming an extremely popular movie actress of the era. Norma would remain a favorite with the public throughout her time making movies. A versatile actress, Norma Shearer would win the 1930 Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in "The Divorcee". She retired from making movies in 1942.
Norma Shearer was married twice, to Irving Thalberg and, later, Martin Arrougé. She has also been romantically linked to actor George Raft, as well as James Stewart. Movie actress, Norma Shearer, passed away on June 12, 1983 from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease.
