From our entertainment memorabilia offerings, here we have a rare Spanish advertising card picturing movie actress, Poppy Wyndham. She was also known as Elsie MacKay, the famous aviator who was killed in a plane crash while trying to cross the Atlantic in 1928. Wyndham memorabilia is difficult to find. A great image, this remains in very good overall condition. This vintage card measures an approximate 3" x 4-1/2".
The actress, Poppy Wyndham, was born in 1891 in India, a daughter of James Lyle Mackay, the First Earl of Inchcape. She started appearing on the stage around 1918, eventually making the move to movies. Her film career was short lived, ending in ruins after being caught in an affair in 1924.
Poppy Wyndham was married twice, to the actor Lionel Atwill and to Dennis Wyndham. On March 13, 1928, the aspiring aviator took off from England with Walter R. Hinchcliffe. Their plane was lost at sea while attempting to cross the Atlantic.
