First Lady Bird Johnson Claudia Johnson Photo Admiring Potomac Narcissus With Nash Castro - E460
Here we have an 8" x 10" photo of Claudia Lady Bird Johnson and Nash Castro, admiring the Narcissus along the Potomac River in Washington, DC.. The original image dated from March 30, 1968. White House photo by Robert Knudsen. Lady Bird Johnson was born on December 22, 1912 as Claudia Alta Taylor near Karnack, Texas. She received her nickname "Lady Bird" as a small child. In 1934 Lady Bird met Lyndon Baines Johnson, then a Congressional secretary visiting Austin on official business. They were married in November 1934. Her husband went on to become the 36th President of the United States. When his Presidential term ended, the Johnsons returned to Texas. LBJ preceeded Lady Bird in death by 34 years. Lady Bird Johnson passed away on July 11, 2007. Ignatius Castro, or "Nash", was born in 1920 in Arizona and served with the National Parks Service beginning at the age of 19, ultimately becoming the Director, National Capital Parks, Washington, D.C., after a 30 year career. He was a close associate to Lady Bird Johnson during her beautification projects while in the White House. He left government in 1969 for the Palisades Interstate Parks Commission.
