A Hungarian by birth, Lucy Doraine was born on May 22, 1898 as Ilonka Kovács. Her early acting career, in Hungary, was guided by her future husband, the director, Mihaly Kertesz a/k/a/ Michael Curtiz. Curtiz would later enjoy tremendous success in America. Divorced at the time, Lucy Doraine would emigrate with her ex-husband and continue to appear in US movies, although without the popularity she had been noted for in Hungary. Lucy Doraine retired from acting in 1931. The actress passed away on October 14, 1989 at the ripe old age of 91.
