Here we have a vintage publicity photo of vaudevillian child actress and movie star Esther Ralston. These photos were usually handed out to movie patrons as they entered the theatres, although they were also mailed upon request. This photo has tinted features as shown. This is in fair condition, having been removed from a scrap book. There are some obvious staple holes and a portion of the album paper remains stuck to the rear of the photo as shown. Approximate size is 5" x 7". Please review both images carefully to note the damage.
The movie actress, Esther Ralston, was born into a vaudeville family and was on stage as part of "The Ralston Family with Baby Esther, America's Youngest Juliet" nearly from birth. Born on September 17, 1902, in Bar Harbor, Maine, Esther would make her first movie appearance as a teenager and continue in minor, uncredited, roles until her popularity soared after playing in serials opposite of Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson, as well as a notable performance in the 1924 classic, "Peter Pan". She retired from the movies in 1941, but continued with sporadic stage and radio performances, along with a few television appearances.
Esther Ralston was married three times. The first marriage was to actor George Webb, followed by a second marriage to actor Will Morgan. After her divorce from Morgan, she would marry, and divorce, Ted Lloyd.
On January 14, 1994, Esther Ralston, the popular movie actress once known as "The American Venus", passed away in her early 90's. She had performed as an actress in approximately 100 early movies. The following films are just a small sampling of her filmography:
