Aerial Photo Of Devastation In Nagasaki After Atomic Bomb World War II - B-G21-A852
Here we have an 8" x 10", black and white aerial photo of Nagasaki, Japan, showing the devestation from the atomic bomb which was dropped during World War II. Our original source photo showed some damage at top left which is reflected in this print. Our original source photo was taken by the US Military, and we've left the military notations at the bottom.
Nagasaki had been the site of extensive wartime industrial production, and had one of the largest ports in southern Japan. It was the secondary target, after Kokura, for the crew of the 393rd Squadron. With cloud cover restricting the view over Kokura, the crew opted to fly to Nagasaki. Within a week of devastation in Nagasaki, Japan announced it's surrender to the Allied powers thus ending World War II.
